Those Were the Days - Remembrance Sunday Heritage Event

The Chelsea Football Club community remembers the contributions made by our armed forces and many others during conflicts over the years, especially in the two World Wars. Our commemoration of those sacrifices also gives us the opportunity to pause and reflect on what life was like for ordinary people, and especially football supporters, during those harrowing times.

The Chelsea Supporters’ Trust and the Chelsea Heritage Partnership, in collaboration with Chelsea FC are hosting a Remembrance Sunday ‘Those Were the Days’ heritage event to highlight some of the extraordinary matches played during those periods. This will be our fourth pre match ‘live’ heritage event, following on from three successful events last season that kicked off with a moving tribute to Gianluca Vialli.

In our poignant tribute we learn from Chelsea FC’s official historian and Chelsea Heritage Partner Rick Glanvill some of the many Chelsea related ‘War Stories’ that highlight both the harsh reality and the humour of those times. Wartime images will be on display across the venue and the event will be enhanced by match footage provided by CH Partner James Abba with vintage clips from his Chelsea Lookback YouTube channel.

Not forgetting our day’s opponents, the event will also feature our somewhat feisty Arsenal rivalry with some terrific footage on show, courtesy of James once again. Our friends in the Chelsea Museum will also be putting out some superb items worthy of the rivalry and Chelsea Heritage Partner Paul Waterhouse from the Bygone Chelsea group will be on hand to share his extensive knowledge and his personal collection of match day programs.

A number of our Chelsea Heritage Partners will be attending the event and are always happy to reminisce with fellow supporters.

Located in the Supporters’ Tea Bar at Stamford Bridge from 2-4pm on Sunday 10 November 2024, refreshments will be available. We look forward to seeing you there.
